Guidelines For Skin Protection

Posted by ecostinger on 14th Aug 2014

When it comes to skin protection, the most important tip one could give you, would be to tell you whether you are young or old you should take all necessary precautions to prevent ultraviolet damage to your skin. This includes avoiding the sun, wearing sun protection clothing, wearing a hat, and properly using sunscreen.

Skin Protection begins with avoiding the sun during the times when solar radiation is peak. That time frame is from 10 in the morning until 2 in the afternoon, with 12 noon being the strongest period of the day. If possible you should avoid prolonged outdoor activity during this time period. Changing our habits relating to our outdoor behavior is where it all starts!

Clothing is also an excellent method of protecting the skin. Every day clothing can provide you with some protection ranging from and SPF rating of 6 to 15, depending on the fabric and that will drop below 5 if the fabric becomes wet. Buying sun protective clothing offers the highest degree of protection.

Many hesitate at the cost of buying sun protective clothing, but they offer far superior protection to sunscreen and when you consider how effective they are and how long they last the cost is actually minimal. Plus there are so many manufacturers on the market these days that it has become much easier to find exactly what you want for the price you want to pay.

Wearing a hat is one of the most important things you can do to prevent exposure to the sun, and we aren’t talking about that ultra fashionable baseball cap. Your hat needs to extend far enough out so as to provide protection to your cheeks, chin and neck. In other words, full facial protection. A baseball cap simply can’t offer this kind of protection – it will protect only the nose and forehead. A hat that has a 7 cm wide brim is perfect.

And of course sunscreens products can also be beneficial, but only if you are choosing the right product. Even today, there still is a great deal of confusion about the SPF rating on the product. Make sure you are choosing the right sunscreen for your skin type and your situation.

Skin protection is very important to ensure that you don’t find yourself developing skin cancer years later. It’s easy to do, takes little time and little money, and it allows you to enjoy the sunshine without the worries.
